I became a Personal Trainer in 2021, during the pandemic. But my journey from being super skinny to overweight, and finally to being photo-ready, has been full of ups and downs. These experiences have given me a broad perspective on the world and how to overcome challenges.
My fitness journey started when I was 15 years old. I couldn't stand what I saw in the mirror. I was so skinny that clothes hung on me like a tent. I avoided going out and meeting friends because I couldn't handle what they might think of me. Holidays were tough because I had to jump into the pool with my shirt on to avoid people seeing and judging me.
I knew I had to change. I couldn't live like that forever, so I dedicated the next few years to growing. I went from 50kg to my heaviest weight of 95kg, but this journey had its own battles.
At the start of 2022, I thought I might have to stop being a personal trainer for financial reasons. Then, out of nowhere, I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. But I didn't let this stop me. I kept training, changed my diet, and continued to grow. I wouldn’t let this define me or be an excuse for not achieving the physique 15-year-old Sam had dreamed of. By December 2023, I hit my heaviest weight of 95kg.
At 95kg, I was holding a lot of fat, but I didn't mind because I was always the skinny kid. However, I knew I needed to get leaner. So, for 12 weeks, I dedicated myself to getting as lean as possible. Twelve weeks later, I was in the best shape of my life. I went from 95kg to 75kg, seeing veins and muscles I had never seen before. I finally felt confident in photos and proud of what I had achieved.
I know what it's like to be on both ends of the spectrum, from super skinny to overweight, to becoming the best version of myself.
